Felip Riera Palou was born in 1973 in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). In 1997 he graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering (Enginyeria en Informàtica, combined BS/MS) from the Dept. of Mathematics and Informatics, University of the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Spain). In September 1998 he obtained the Master of Science (MSc) in Communications from the Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunications, University of Bradford (Bradford, UK). Upon completion of the MSc, he stayed at Bradford as a research assistant conducting work on mobile communications. This work was partially funded by Mobile VCE (Core 1). He obtained the PhD degree (doctorate) in May 2002 with a thesis entitled "Reconfigurable Structures for Direct Equalisation in Mobile Receivers". In September 2006 he obtained (by distance learning, 2003-2006) the Master of Science (MSc) in Statistics from the Dept. of Probability and Statistics, University of Sheffield (Sheffield, UK). He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Mathematical Optimisation Methods from UNED (Spanish distance-learning university).

In late May 2002 he joined Philips Research Laboratories (the research arm of Philips Electronics) in Eindhoven (The Netherlands), first as a Marie Curie post-doctoral fellow and later as a member of technical staff. At Philips, he was member of the Digital Signal Processing group and he worked on research programs related to wideband speech/audio compression and speech enhancement/echo cancellation for mobile handsets.

From April 2005 to December 2009 he was a research associate (Ramon y Cajal program, Spanish Ministry of Science) in the Mobile Communications Group of the Dept. of Mathematics and Informatics at UIB.

Since January 2010 he is an associate research professor (I3 program, Spanish Ministry of Education) at UIB. Dr Riera-Palou's current research interests are in the general areas of signal processing and wireless communications, topics on which he has published around 80 papers in international conferences and journals. He holds six US (international) patents, one British patent and one Spanish patent . He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses related to signal processing and wireless communications at the UIB.
